GOD’S RECORD BOOKS

Yes, God has record books in heaven in which the names of every human being can be found. The very moment you were born, God placed a soul into your body, and you became a ‘living soul’. Also at that time, your name was written down in a book called the BOOK OF LIFE.

Moses apparently understood that names could be blotted out of the Book of Life, because while he was on Mount Sinai receiving the Ten Commandments and the dietary and social laws by which the Children of Israel were to live, the people asked Aaron to make a golden calf for them to worship. God became very angry and was ready to destroy them, but Moses pleaded with the Lord to forgive their sin: “Oh Lord, these people have sinned a great sin by making a god of gold to worship. If You will not forgive their sin, I pray that You will blot my name out of the book which You have written.” (Exodus 32:1-32) God’s answer to Moses was: “Whosoever has sinned against Me, him will I blot out of My book.” (Exodus 32:33)

What would be that unpardonable sin? It is the sin of rejecting the work of Jesus Christ dying on the cross for you, for me, and for the sins of the whole world.

God gives each one of us a certain number of years to live on this earth. There has always been a time called ‘God-consciousness’ when a person realizes that there must be a creator. At that time he may decide he wants to know God or just reject the idea. Even if the individual is negative toward God, He is always gracious and will provide Gospel information during that person’s lifetime, thereby, giving him another opportunity to change his attitude (repent) and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and have eternal life.

The idea of ‘being good’ has been taught to us from childhood and throughout our adult life as well. We certainly should live morally and be kind to our friends and neighbors, but that will not give anyone a ticket into heaven. Only faith in the Lord Jesus Christ dying on the cross as your substitute will assure you of salvation and eternal life. If a person dies without having believed in Christ, he will be raised from the dead at the end of time and will stand before the Lord with unbelievers of all the ages to be judged at the Great White Throne for their human good deeds … NOT THEIR SINS! All sin was judged on the cross!

“And I saw a great white throne, and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heavens fled away, and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God, and the books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the Book of Life, and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:11-15)

Provision has been made for everyone’s name to be in the Book of Life; however, if an individual dies without believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, his name will be blotted out of the Book of Life and written down in the Books of Works. God will show the unbeliever that ONLY the work of Christ dying on the cross for the sins of the world is acceptable … the unbeliever’s human good works will be evaluated and burned, and he will be cast into the Lake of Fire with the devil and his angels and be tormented day and night throughout eternity. (Revelation 20:10)
